Their International Travel Immunization clinic has been expanded, and they are also offering lab drawing services with written physician prescriptions.
They will be offering baby care classes beginning in March 2010 to anyone who has ever wished that babies came with instructions. These classes will be completely hands-on, and will address over 20 issues that range from basic bathing, cord-care, and temperature-taking, to developmental issues, choking, and CPR. Classes are offered to anyone who is interested that is caring for or parenting a child from birth to 2 years old. The classes will be held at the Health Department, and will consist of one three-hour session with a specially-trained RN. The cost of the class will be $20, and parents are welcome to bring their babies to this fun and informal learning opportunity. Classes can be scheduled by calling the Houston County Health Department at (478) 218-2000.
The international travel clinic is expanding, now offering a full array of travel vaccines and travel consultation for those planning overseas trips. A specially trained RN is able to provide a wide range of health and safety information that is specially tailored to each traveller's agenda in a one-on-one consult. The nurse will be able to travel off-site to provide education and vaccines to groups travelling together, and the Health Department caters to corportate travelling needs. They are opening the back portion of their facility to make a dedicated clinic for adult vaccines and travel vaccines, to decrease the waiting time for adult services.
Finally, Houston Health is offering laboratory drawing services at very low cost! The services are performed on a walk-in basis, and require a written physician's prescription. The cost of the testing is extremely reasonable. Patients are welcome to call the Health Department at (478) 218-2000 to check prices and availability of testing.
