Spring Breakers Renovate Homes With HoCo Habitat for Humanity
More than 30 college students from across the country travelled to Warner Robins for their spring break to partner with Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together. The students are participants of Alternative Spring Break programs at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL and American University in Washington, D.C. The Alternative Spring Break programs provide opportunities for college aged students to use their vacations to help those in need in a community other than their own.
All this week through Friday, March 12, students will help renovate three houses with Rebuilding Together and help construct one house with Houston County Habitat for Humanity. Rebuilding Together and Habitat for Humanity have partnered with this venture to create a larger impact on Houston County.
“We truly appreciate the work of these youth volunteers,” said Megan French, Houston County Habitat’s Youth Programs Coordinator. “They are making a difference in our community by helping families in need obtain safe, decent and affordable homes.”
Students will also spend time learning about Warner Robins and Houston County by interacting with members of the community and with engineers from Robins Air Force Base. Because the majority of students from Illinois Institute of Technology are working to obtain degrees in engineering fields, representatives from Robins AFB will meet with the students at the Museum of Aviation to discuss the field as it pertains to the military.
