Downtown Cleanup Volunteers Now Eligible for a Free Ticket to DisneyWorld

On Saturday, March 6, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., several community organizations – including Cherry Street Streetscapes Commission, City Watch, Crime Stoppers, Boylan Bottling, Facade Squad, Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful, and the Macon Neighborhood Revitalization Partnership – have joined forces in an effort to beautify Downtown Macon as part of the Great American Cleanup.  This Cleanup day will include activities such as removal of trash and litter, grass and weeds, and large debris. The day also kicks off NewTown’s program to remove graffiti from buildings in the central business district by the end of May, which coincides with the Great American Cleanup, which is from the beginning of March until the end of May.

This project needs many volunteers to clean up the designated 20-block area bordered by Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, New Street, Plum Street, and Riverside Drive.  Be one of the first 200 volunteers to pre-register, and qualify for a free ticket to DisneyWorld!  To sign up, please call Kris Hattaway at (478) 722-9909 or email Jessica@newtownmacon.com.  Volunteers can also sign up the day of the event, but will not be eligible for the Disney ticket.  Check in at the Poplar Street Parking Deck, at the corner of Poplar Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., between 8:45 - 9 a.m. that morning.  Participants can park in the parking deck and check in on the top level.  Lunch will be served to all volunteers. There will also be an opportunity to join the Downtown City Watch Program at this event. City Watch is a grassroots organization that works with Downtown residents and businesses to create a safe and welcoming downtown. For more information, visit www.citywatchmacon.com.
