Kings Chapel's Storybook Pumpkin Night

Storybook Pumpkin Night was a HUGE success at Kings Chapel Elementary in Perry!  Over 150 decorated pumpkins were shown and seen by more than 200 students and family members! Some of the most popular characters were Sponge Bob, Junie B. Jones, Charlotte’s Web, and Fancy Nancy.

College Hill Corridor Initiative

The basic elements of the College Hill Corridor initiative were conceived in a Mercer Senior Capstone class taught by Dr. Peter Brown, senior vice provost and professor of philosophy and interdisciplinary studies, in the fall of 2006. A Community Foundation of Central Georgia grant, from its Knight Fund, allowed the students to travel to Washington, D.C., to meet with Richard Florida of the Creative Class Group to learn how they could help spur economic development in the College Hill area. Florida’s work focuses on diversity and creativity as basic drivers of innovation and regional and national growth. The students concluded that Macon was well positioned to recruit and grow creative service industries, such as graphic design, marketing and the arts, by retaining talented young people graduating from the city’s academic institutions.
 

Jay's Hope

The non-profit organization, Jay’s Hope, has been on a mission, to improve the quality of life of children with cancer and their families in Middle Georgia. The organization provides social, emotional, spiritual and financial support. Founder of Jay’s Hope, Cindy Gaskins, says that the organization is an opportunity to provide parents with a place to find comfort and support.

"These are lovely flowers, which by sunrise tomorrow will be nothing but a droopy collection of white pedals.  Enjoy!  Thank goodness we finished our photo session.  As I prepare to send these, the rains are pelting down."

It's that time of year... children are heading back to school in their crisp new clothes, school bags packed with supplies, and lunch pale in hand!  Filled with excitement and ready to start a new year, the smiles on these childrens' faces make us wish we were back in school, too!

Night Blooming Cereus

Well, our Plants are finally blooming.  Last night we had a small party.  Tonight it is expected that we will have at least eight blooms.

Bug Day held at Museum of Arts & Sciences

The Museum of Arts and Sciences hosted BUG DAY in July.  Bug Day is an annual event and one of the most popular family days sponsored by the Museum.  The event includes close encounters with all manner of bugs and insects from the Museum’s own live animal collection, plus other exhibitions, activities and even a bug buffet!

Museum of Aviation "24th Annual Auction, Raffle & Taste of Local Cuisine"

The 24th Annual Museum of Aviation Foundation Auction, Raffle and Taste of Local Cuisine was held at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins in July.  Hundreds of items were bid on during a silent auction.  A live auction was held, as well as a Taste of Local Cuisine featuring signature food items from 30 local area restaurants and caterers.
 
Raffle tickets were sold and included Auction admission for 2 people and a chance to win a new car or truck or $20,000.  Second Place was a $2000 cash prize and the Third Place winner received $500.  Several $100 cash prize drawings also were held throughout the evening.

Thirsty Thursday - Every 3rd Thursday of the Month

Thirsty Thursday takes place the 3rd Thursday of each month from 5 - 7 p.m., and is the young adults and professionals' alternative to Happy Hour.  This is a free event that takes place on the patio behind The Hummingbird on Cherry Street.  Drink specials, as well as specials at local Downtown Macon restuarants are available during this event.
