Bibb School Superintendent Applications Being Accepted Through August 20

The profile and application for the next Bibb County School District Superintendent are posted online at http://bibbsuperintendent.com.  There is also a link to this site posted on our district website at www.bibb.k12.ga.us.  Deadline for applications is Friday, August 20.

Westfield School’s Gehrig Broxton Wins Merit Scholarship

The Westfield School is pleased to announce the recipient of its Merit Scholarship program for the 2010-2011 school year.  This scholarship is based on the academic ability, character, and leadership potential.  Candidates participated in a competitive scholarship selection process that included the consideration of test scores, academic record, and essay writing.

Houston Student Poetry Contest Winners

Houston County students recently participated in a poetry contest sponsored by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.  The contest was open to any Houston County student, from elementary school to high school.  Seventeen students from six schools entered the competition.  The winners in each division received a certificate and trophy, with the 1st Place winner also receiving a cash prize.  The event was held at Miller Elementary School.

Air Force Displays Vapor Supercar at MGTC

Middle Georgia Technical College (MGTC) students, as well as Child Development Center students, recently visited the U.S. Air Force Vapor Supercar display, which was set up in the front parking lot of the main MGTC campus. The Vapor Project Supercar is a Dodge Challenger that has been completely overhauled by a team of seven highly specialized airmen with a world-renowned team of car mechanics and customizers from Galpin Auto Sports of MTV’s Pimp My Ride fame. The Project Supercar team has been visiting high schools, universities and colleges with aviation programs in an effort to recruit individuals interested in a career in aviation.

State AYP Results: 88.9% of Houston County Schools Meet or Exceed Standards

The Georgia Department of Education recently released the 2010 Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) report. Thirty-two of Houston County’s 36 schools evaluated (88.9%) met AYP standards. Across Georgia, 71.1% made AYP in 2010.
