Medical Center 51st Annual Employee Recognition Dinner on May 13

On May 13, 2010, Central Georgia Health System and The Medical Center of Central Georgia will be celebrating its 51st Annual Employee Recognition Dinner, recognizing over 650 employees ranging from 5 to 50 years of service.  The honorees this year encompass over 7,700 accumulated years of service, which shows the loyalty and dedication of these employees to our hospital, our patients, and our community.

Spring Breakers Renovate Homes With HoCo Habitat for Humanity

More than 30 college students from across the country travelled to Warner Robins for their spring break to partner with Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together. The students are participants of Alternative Spring Break programs at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL and American University in Washington, D.C.  The Alternative Spring Break programs provide opportunities for college aged students to use their vacations to help those in need in a community other than their own.

New Macon Baseball Team Introduced On March 11

Baseball is returning to Historic Luther Williams Field this summer!  The team's identity will be announced at a press conference on Thursday, March 11 at the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, located at 305 Coliseum Drive, starting at 2 p.m.  The event will be open to the public.
The Peach State League received over 200 unique submissions, and one lucky fan who submitted the winning name will receive a set of two season tickets, and will also have the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch on Opening Night.  Several other prizes will be awarded as well, including: Most unique name submitted, and Best story behind a name submitted.

Downtown Cleanup Volunteers Now Eligible for a Free Ticket to DisneyWorld

On Saturday, March 6, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., several community organizations – including Cherry Street Streetscapes Commission, City Watch, Crime Stoppers, Boylan Bottling, Facade Squad, Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful, and the Macon Neighborhood Revitalization Partnership – have joined forces in an effort to beautify Downtown Macon as part of the Great American Cleanup.  This Cleanup day will include activities such as removal of trash and litter, grass and weeds, and large debris. The day also kicks off NewTown’s program to remove graffiti from buildings in the central business district by the end of May, which coincides with the Great American Cleanup, which is from the beginning of March until the end of May.

Atlantic Sun Basketball Conference Brings Excitement to Macon on March 3-6

The ball is in Mercer University’s basketball courts this week with the Atlantic Sun Men’s & Women’s Basketball Championships.  The Championship Games, hosted by Mercer University at their University Center on March 3 – 6, are expected to showcase great basketball talent from colleges in the Southeast and place Macon on the national stage with ESPN2 television coverage.
