Stratford Academy Participates in 2009 GISA All-Select Band


Stratford was pleased to have eight students chosen to perform in this year's GISA All-Select Band at the Darlington School in Rome, under the baton of Dr. Rusty Courson.  Congratulations to Stratford students Rohin Aggarwal, Dylan Cole, Benjamin Ford, Carrie-Ellen Ford, Marshall Grubb, Karena MacDonald, Matthew Mitchell, and Bert Thompson!

Stratford Academy Participates In 2009 GISA All-Select Chorus


Four Stratford Academy Upper School Choral Students -- senior Katie Elliott, junior Arhum Qazi, and sophomores Merritt Jones and Casey Wanna -- were chosen to participate in the 2009 GISA All-Select Chorus, which was held the weekend of October 31-November 1 at the Darlington School in Rome.  This year's choral clinician was Rodney Eichenberger, Professor at Florida State University.

Softball Eaglettes Capture Stratford's First State Fastpitch Title


Youth was served! The 2009 Stratford Academy Eaglettes won the school’s first-ever fastpitch softball state championship by defeating cross-town rival First Presbyterian Day by a score of 2-1.  The Stratford team is coached by Jeff Treadway and Julie Long.

Stratford Soccer Eagles Earn A Repeat State Championship


For the second year running, the Stratford Academy varsity boys’ soccer team won the GISA class AAA state championship.  Led by senior captains Mack Hodges and Stuart Firth, and junior captain Bo Stroup, the Eagles achieved a record of 17-5-1.  The Eagles defeated Mount de Sales Academy 3-2 to capture the state title.  The Eagles are coached by James Jordan.

Stratford Academy Inducts New Members Into Junior Beta Club


Sixty-two Stratford Academy Middle School students were inducted into the 2009-2010 Junior Beta Club at a special breakfast sponsored by Stratford.  Students qualified for membership by achieving an all-"A" year-end average in every subject last year.  Club sponsors are Jennifer Sweat and Tommy Fletcher.

Downtown Macon Is The Place To Be On New Year's Eve!

NewTown Macon, Robins Federal Credit Union, and the Cherry Blossom Festival have announced that First Friday for January will be celebrated on December 31 – New Year’s Eve – in an effort to draw more people downtown to ring in the New Year.  Therefore, New Year’s Eve will be "First Friday at Midnight."
 

Northside Optimist Club Members Create Largest Charity Race Team

Northside High School’s Junior Optimist Octagon International Club, in partnership with Quail Run Elementary, participated in the Race for the Cure on October 24, and won the Team Award for having one of the “Largest Race Teams” in the K-12 schools cateogory.  The team raised more than $600 through online donations.

Macon State's Fall Digital Video Festival is December 10

Macon State College will hold its 7th Annual Fall Digital Video Festival on Thursday, December 10, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Macon State College Learning Support Auditorium.  The festival will feature final documentary videos by students from Dr. Patrick Brennan's Fall 2009 "Principles of Production" class.

Each student video runs from 5-10 minutes.  Some of the video titles for this year's festival are "Hold 'Em: An Amateur Poker Story," "The Life and Times of Mae Chancey," "A Day at Mother Goose," "Michael Brooker: Hometown Hero," and "W.O.W. Reality."  This event is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served.
