Student Selected to serve as Congressional Page in Washington, D.C.

U.S. Representative Jim Marshall recently announced that Brandon
Hill, the son of Geraldine and Marvin Hill, has been selected to serve as a Congressional Page in Washington, DC for the 2009 Fall Session.
 

City Watch Partners With Crimestoppers

On Tuesday, August 4, 2009, the Downtown Macon City Watch, in partnership with the Macon Regional Crimestoppers, will host a National Night Out celebration on the top level of the parking garage at 475 Poplar Street after the 5:30 p.m. city-wide rally at City Hall. 

Macon Residents' Named to Dean's, President's List at Mercer University

The following students from your area were named to the President’s or Dean’s List of their college or school at Mercer University for the Spring 2009 semester. Inclusion on these lists requires students to meet rigorous grade-point-average standards specific to their school within the University.

New Substance Abuse and Mental Health Awareness Program Introduced

The Medical Center of Central Georgia announces a new substance abuse and mental health identification and awareness program, SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment). Funded by a $5 million grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, SBIRT seeks to identify persons who are at risk for substance abuse and provides effective strategies for intervention prior to the need for more extensive or specialized treatment. This program screens about 1,000 patients per week in Central Georgia and offers intervention and referral services to those needing help with substance abuse problems.

Unified Bell System is Adopted

In its effort to develop an efficient and effective school bus routing system, the
Board of Education voted to adopt a unified bell for elementary schools.
This new bell schedule will give bus drivers ample time to deliver elementary
students to their schools in time for breakfast after completing their high school
and middle school routes.
 
This will also free up resources at the schools so that
they can help address overcrowding issues in some areas.

Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, the Bibb County School District will

Museum of Aviation Unveils New Logo

The Museum of Aviation has unveiled a new logo as part of its 25th Anniversary Celebration Year.  The words “Museum of Aviation” are incorporated into a new stylized star with “wings” of movement denoting the power and speed of the U. S. Air Force.  The logo was designed by Bright Ideas Group in Macon, Georgia.

Flint Energies Gives Grant to Help Teen Girls

Made 2B More announced today their receipt of a grant for $3,250.00.00 from Flint Energies Foundation, a non-profit arm of Reynolds, GA – based Flint Energies. The funding is necessary to the operation of Made 2B More, as the nonprofit organization, new to the Middle Georgia area, strives to give girls the foundational tools to help them reach their full potential.

Chick Fil-A Spirit Night

Chick-fil-A Spirit Night will donate "10% of all sales to Grace Village"
This fundraiser is being hosted by the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce.
