Perry Chamber of Commerce Awards the Frank & Betty Estes Scholarship
The Education Committee of the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that Katherine Cawthon is the recipients of the Frank and Betty Estes Scholarship. Cawthon is a student at the Westfield School.
The scholarship was created to reward deserving students in Houston County who demonstrate high ethical and moral standards and whose scholastic grades indicate an ability and desire for further learning. The Scholarship honors the memory of the parents of Betty Gooden Estes, James M. Gooden, Superintendent of Perry High School from 1919 to 1937, and his wife Stella W. Gooden.

Ribbon Cutting Held for Indian Creek Plantation
The Perry Area Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting for Indian Creek Plantation on Friday, June 19, 2009. The subdivision is located on Hwy 127 West in Perry (just off Marshallville Rd.). Chamber staff, business leaders, and community members helped celebrate the opening.

Fire Works Sparks Repairs
The Augusta Disaster Recovery Team is back! They are joining the fireworks this July with Rebuilding Macon and hundreds of other volunteers traveling to Macon to repair plumbing, repair and/or replace bathroom and kitchen fixtures, repair roofs, paint houses, build wheelchair ramps, clear yards and perform countless household repairs for the elderly and disabled low-income homeowners, free of charge.
Macon Professional Women's SERTOMA Club holds Important Meeting
Macon Professional Women’s SERTOMA Club presented year end awards at their annual dinner. Denise Harrow received the B.J. Cain Spirit Award – the award, in memory of member B.J. Cain, recognizes a member who shows SERTOMA Spirit in supporting the Club. Andgelia Kelly received the Sertoman of the Year for her service to the Club, and will compete for the District award. Steve Brodie, SERTOMA District Governor, attended the ceremony.

Come Make a Splash at First Friday's Independence Day Beach Blast!
July’s First Friday, sponsored by Robins Federal Credit Union, will bring sand, sun and surf to the heart of Macon with the First Friday Independence Day Beach Blast on July 3, 2009. Starting at 5 pm, the sidewalks will be filled with sales, live entertainment, art, food and more!
Rebuilding Macon: Making a Difference
Approximately 400 youth volunteers from across the southeastern United States braved the soaring temperatures to travel to Macon to repair 8 roofs, paint 18 houses, build wheelchair ramps, clear yards and perform countless household repairs to accomplish their goal of repairing 28 homes for the elderly and disabled low-income homeowners, free of charge, by Friday, June 26, 2006.
Celebration Being Held In Macon - Friday, June 26 at 11 a.m.
Macon Outreach at Mulberry will be hosting a "Salute to America" celebration on Friday, June 26 at 11:00am, especially for the homeless, needy, and deserving in our community. Over 200 guests are expected to join the fun in the newly renovated headquarters of Macon Outreach.
Serving up a traditional summer lunch of fried fish, watermelon, and lemonade, special activities include a visit from Uncle Sam, and a tribute to our local veterans. Please join us. If you have questions, please contact Johnny Hathcock, Executive Director, at (478) 743-8026.
Macon Outreach at Mulberry is located at 267 First Street in downtown Macon, in the chapel level of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. A community-wide cooperative ministry, Macon Outreach at Mulberry is the largest congregant meal provider in middle GA serving the homeless and working poor.
Robert C. Byrd Scholars Announced
Four Houston County School System graduates from the Class of 2009 have been selected as 2009 Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship recipients. The scholars are eligible for a $1,500 scholarship to be used for tuition costs at any college they choose to attend. Byrd Scholars must have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and show promise of continued excellence in postsecondary education.
